Dr Honoré MD was graduated from Louvain Medical School as MD(1988), Internist(1993), Intensivist (1994).During his internal membership, he completed more than 2 years and 6 months in Neprology and Dialysis. He has been educated (in ICU) nearly three years outside Belgium mainly in UK and Australia and as well a little part in USA.The first time he was approaching a study on hemofiltration was in the early nineties, when at the time he was working in the ICU of Professor David Bihari at Guy’s Hospital in London.David Bihari gave him the first possibility to work in this field at the time.Since, nearly 20 years later , he is still fully focused on this topic and especially when used in Sepsis.Regarding this topic, it is not always easy to have a double blind well randomized study. After he did completed several prospective open interventional studies in the mid-, late nineties and early 2000 as well as some mechanistic studies on the subject, he tought that the time has come to set up a large randomized multicentric and multinational study comparing the adequate dose of hemofiltration (35 ml/kg/h versus 70 ml/kg/h) in septic shock plus acute renal injury by evaluating the 28, 60 & 90 days mortality between both groups. The so-called IVOIRE study has been set-up together with Dr Olivier Joannes-Boyau from the University of Bordeaux.Nearly 20 centres in three countries are involved in this large study."IVOIRE" stand for hIgh VOlume in Intensive caRE.At the end of year 2009, more than 150 patients will be randomized during a three years period of time starting from begining 2006 and a first interim analysis will be performed. In this field, it is rather difficult to obtain a large financial support in order to run correctly such important study. The Stoutenbeek Award 2004 (ESICM Society) gave him not only the Award in value(grant) but many more added values.Indeed, the recognition by a independent expert committee of the quality of the study inside the ESICM(this committee was chaired by Prof Deborah Cook,Canada) was an extremely important factor to raise more funding for the completion of our study. Also, the Award is very important regarding the career of a clinical researcher as it represent some recognition of a longstanding work(nearly 20 years) realised in the field of hemofiltration in sepsis. He is still involved in some other studies regarding more mechanistic approaches regarding hemofiltration and sepsis in collaboration with Dr Olivier Joannes-Boyau from the University of Bordeaux. He is also very involved in the metabolic section of the ESICM Society and also as reviewer in several Journals (CCM, CC, ICM, NDT, KI, BP,RF,MB,HD, An..).As well also involved in the Board of our National Belgian Intensive Care Society. Last but not least, he is still working as a Full-Time Clinical Intensivist in the ICU in the largest Burn Center in Belgium, located in Brussels at the Queen Astrid Military Hospital.
Dr Honoré is the author (or co-author) of more than 80 peer review papers in the field of haemofiltration. He is also author (or co-author) of more than 350 abstracts in the field of haemofiltration as well.He has been invited in more than 170 national and international conferences in nearly 65 different countries. He has been receiving awards many time concerning his research in haemofiltration (Belgian Society of Infectiology /1997, French SRLF/Best young researcher 2003,European ESICM Stoutenbeek Award/2005…) including many other Awards regarding best presentation or best poster in several international conferences). He is also a member of the organizing committee of several international Meetings :CRRT, San Diego since more than 10 years /Pardubice(Czeck Republic),Vitoria (Spain),Saudi Arabia Bisannual Congress..).He has been writing many book chapters (more than 20) and serve as editor in some of those dedicated Books to CRRT in ICU (SRLF Book,Yearbook ISICEM,Cambridge University Press, Critical Care Nephrology Books,Contributions to Nephrology...) .
